About this tool

GPS Route Recorder uses the browser's Geolocation API (navigator.geolocation.watchPosition) to track your position continuously and visualise the path on a client-side canvas. Everything stays in your browser — no data is sent to any server.

Features

Live recording — start, pause, and stop tracking with high-accuracy GPS
Canvas map — real-time path with start/end markers, scale bar, and compass
Stats — distance (km & miles), duration, current speed, average speed, accuracy
Import GPX — visualise an existing .gpx file from Strava, Garmin, Komoot, etc.
Export GPX — standard GPX 1.1 file with lat/lon, elevation, and timestamps
Export CSV — all track points as CSV for analysis in Excel / DuckDB / Python

Tips

For best accuracy, use on a phone outdoors with location services enabled
Keep the screen awake while recording (your device may lock GPS when idle)
Imported GPX files are parsed fully client-side with DOMParser — no upload
GPX files export with the standard .gpx extension for direct import into mapping apps
